I mentioned in CoLD XXXIX that I am mad in love with this Korean movie Kundo. It’s a Robin Hood tale set in late Joseon with a soundtrack that plays homage to Ennio Morricone. In fact the whole film looks like it was made by a Korean Sergio Leone. Which is why I say that it is what the movies in my head look like. When I day-dream about Legendary Sisters becoming either a film or a streaming series, it looks very similar to what Kundo does. So naturally, since we’re all attracted to ourselves, I love the hell out of this movie. You should too. Oh and here’s some fan-art.
Last night marked the first Studio Doggebi Witching Hour special. Youtubers Joe and Cheff Julie of the YOONiverse hung out with me as we counted down the launch of the annual Doggebi Halloween Special JungSeung Mountain. Since All Hallows Eve coincides with the culmination of #inktober I made an event of it, drawing my guests (or a vague approximation thereof) ala the style of The Legendary Sisters of the Laughing Doggebi as entries 30 and 31.
It was a fantastic time!
The tradition I started last year of publishing a Halloween Special is evolving slightly this year. I’m adding the countdown broadcast! I’ll be spending the witching hour (Oct 30 11pm – Oct 31 12:00) online in a special edition g+ Hangout On Air. But wait there’s more!
Special Guests!
I’ll be drawing my new friends and fellow content creators, Joe and Chef Julie Yoon of the Yooniverse, in Legendary style! The Yoons are a Chicago couple producing a YouTube cooking show together. You owe it to yourself to check out their YouTube channel and WebSite. I’ll enable the Q&A app on the hangout so viewers can ask questions.
Check out the Halloween Hangout on Air:

on 10/30/14 11pm CST.
I’m very pleased to announce that this year’s annual Halloween special is well underway. I’ve received the first page pencils and they are off the hook.
I chose Southern Californian Brandon Palas as the artist this year. As you can see in this pin-up from his graphic novel The Legend of the Mantamaji (pre-order on Amazon) Brandon has a talent for sassy lethal looking femme-fatales. It has been an absolute pleasure working with him and the thumbnails he’s given me have me champing at the bit for the final inks.
Yesterday I made this announcement over at Patreon.
To be clear, you don’t have to be a patron to see updates about this process, but I won’t be posting them here. So if you are interested in seeing how I create the character concepts, flesh out the changes and implement them Patreon.com/LegendarySisters is where you want to go.
As such I’ve been sorting through what will be involved in the canonization process:
Fixing style inconsistencies, glaring errors, and sloppiness in the original pages is objective number 1 but…
- How much rework should I consider vs salvaging the original panels?
- Do I do this digitally so that I can only fix broken panels?
- Or do I go with traditional pages so that I have original artwork for the Kickstarter?
But there are pitfalls to lookout for…
- I intend to add some new pages, but I don’t want any Greedo shoots first disasters.
- I don’t want to get trapped in rewrite/revision hell… a real danger with me as I generally hate my own work and Monday deadlines won’t exist for this effort.
- The necessity of a series bible for this effort is a huge time consuming effort which brings me to…
And there are implications some of those decisions will have on the current pages.
- So yeah, a series bible would need to be obeyed going forward… which means more inconsistencies in the pages between the prologue and pages produced after said bible.
- There will be a (long) period of time where pages between the prologue and post-bible pages are wildly inconsistent. This may bother me more than it does you.
So that’s just where my mind is as I get myself ready to tackle this pretty monstrous task.
I just had to show this off! This is epic-win-sauce! Check out the fan-art gallery for more reader contributions!
You can find more of Rober Cross‘s work in his gallery.
My Patreon Patrons have taken me to my first Milestone Goal. So they’ll be getting these. Autographed of course.
I’ve finally started getting fan-art! This is a big deal for me. Check out the new fan-art gallery!
